If you use an indirect cost rate, you define your plan and its
methodology to the system through easy to use screens regardless
of how complex the plan is. If you recover costs from only certain
programs, only certain expense categories, up to certain limits,
or any other criteria, the system will recover the costs accurately
into the cost pool. If you simply determine how you want to allocate
costs directly, you define the methodology to the system according
to your guidelines. When you allocate salaries, the system allocates
any derivative expenses such as FICA, unemployment, medical, dental,
and others on the same basis as the salary expense.
